Paul Lincoln is a printmaker specialising in screenprint. Paul is a member at East London Printmakers and lives in the City of London where he also works as a city guide.
Inspired by the relationship between the history of the City of London and its modern buildings, he focuses on topics including the Roman London Wall, the campaign to save the Museum of London and as demonstrated by this submission, 22 Bishopsgate; a 62-storey building described by historian Owen Hatherley as ‘dystopian architecture, encapsulating in one edifice a science fiction vision of a megalopolis where any controls on capital have collapsed.’
Paul’s work seeks to make sense of how the city where he was born is being constantly reinvented. The work includes a focus on climate change in the Melting City series and an exploration of the way in which the City is encroaching on the East End; well illustrated by the view from Mile End down the Whitechapel Road.
Paul’s family settled in the East End in the 1880s and several works: Leaving Łódź and Lost in Łódź, refer to the Polish city from which they emigrated in 1880.
